Task Force Founder Kimberly Wong, along with Task Force friend Raul Martinez and Junior League State Public Affairs Committee Co-Chairs Catherine Carlton and Joy Burkhard joined Assemblyman Roger Hernandez on the floor of the California State Assembly yesterday to introduce ACR 53, the Kelly Abraham Martinez Act. The Act, which was authored by Assemblyman Hernandez and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County Perinatal Task Force and Junior Leagues SPAC, urges hospital providers, mental health care providers, health plans, and insurers to invest resources to educate women about perinatal depression risk factors and triggers. Yesterday’s floor presentation and the ACR 53 are the first steps towards crafting legislation that would address perinatal depression, including access to preventative measures, required screenings, or other treatment models.
