Members of the Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force’s Training Institute delivered a full-day training on perinatal depression to health and human service providers across Los Angeles County on October 3rd. The training was a part of the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic’s Early Intervention Training Institute, which aims to increase the capacity of community-based and educational agencies in identifying children who are at risk for emotional, behavioral, and social challenges by training professionals to effectively assist these children and their families. Caron Post, PhD, Diana Barnes, PsyD, Deborah Hayes, LCSW, MPH, Emily Dosset, MD and Gabrielle Kaufman, MA, BC-DMT, NCC presented on the risk factors, signs, symptoms and treatment of perinatal depression. Highlights of the training include role playing, interactive activities and lively discussions. During lunch, the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic presented Sandy Banks of the LA Times and the USC Family of Schools with awards for their distinguished contributions to improve the well-being of children, families and communities.
